We at SGL pledge to grow sustainably alongside society by earnestly addressing various social issues as a member of society and making proactive contributions to society as one of its members.

Organization

In January 2024, SGL established its Sustainability Promotion Committee chaired by its Vice President.
This organization reviews and approves measures to address companywide issues and other areas for the purpose of promoting sustainability management at SGL.
Under our organizational structure, the Committee makes reports twice a year at the Management Council, where resolutions of priority issues pertaining to management are obtained.

With respect to compliance, the Compliance Committee, which is chaired by the Representative Director and President, convenes regularly every quarter.

Materiality

SGL identifies priority issues that it must address and achieves sustainable growth through their resolution.

Steps for identifying materiality

In identifying its materiality, using the SDG Compass* as a base, SGL performed the following four steps that added processes unique to the company to that base.

Specific initiatives by SGL

Introduction of three-sided variable automatic packaging machine

Introduced at Akanehama Center in February 2023. Automatically cuts cardboard according to product size and manufactures boxes. Realizes reductions in materials as well as reduced space upon transport/storage.

Installation of solar panels

Introduced at Kita-Kanto Service Center in February 2022. Generates 3,200 kwh/month and reduces CO2 emissions by 1.5 tons/month. Also utilized as an emergency power source in the event of an earthquake.

Booth presence at SDGs AICHI EXPO

Featured exhibit at the Sumitomo Corporation Group booth. Introduced MAXICON business and unique initiatives to visualize greenhouse gas emissions from international transport conducted by Sumitomo Corporation Group. Exhibited an actual unit of MAXICON(M500)

Employment support for people with disabilities

Formed business alliance with “Akane-en,” a social welfare corporation that provides employment support for people with disabilities in Narashino City, in June 2022. Providing SGL logistics centers as sites for job training.

Initiative for calculating greenhouse gas emissions from international transport

Since 2020, Sumitomo Corporation and its Group companies have been endeavoring to calculate greenhouse gas emissions from international transport and have obtained third-party certification after establishing their own calculation methods.

Industry-university cooperation with Chiba Institute of Technology

In 2023, students from the Kurakazu Laboratory under the Chiba Institute of Technology's Department of Design lent their cooperation in efforts to renovate employee break area at Akanehama Logistics Center No.1. This cooperation ranged from concept formulation to design.
